Since you already have the digital camera and the Mac. The simplest and easiest way to get started photo sharing is .mac. Process your photos as you like with Photoshop, Graphic convertor or whatever you like. Import them to iPhoto then click the "homepage" link. Select a frame or none as you like, add caption, and publish to your iDisk. It will set them up with a unique web page, with it's own url which you can share with anyone, on any platform, using any OS that has a web browser.
It is the ultimate in ease of use. The only limitation is maximum of 48 photo's to a single album. You can create as many albums as you like. If you need more storage space, it's a simple click.
It does not get any easier. Later on if you decide to set up your own server, write your own code, etc., you can drop the .mac. But that's as easy as it comes, to start out sharing pictures on the web.
