Same machine. Same settings. The machine runs through a d-link router which does the talking to the world through a Zoom 56k modem. The router deals with the modem. All the mac had to do was deal with TCP/IP packets. Absolutely virgin install of Jag and 9.2.2 with software updated. X was 30-40% slower than Classic. 25-28k vs. 46-49k.

I cannot recall ever having had that kind of problem using modem in any
version of 10 on my iBook, so I certainly don't think it is general.

Are your modem settings exactly the same as in OS9? (like do you use v.90)
