Explorer. Mozilla. Safari wasn't released yet. Additionally, installing X on the "supported" Rev C Beige G-3 was such a PITA that I won't soon revisit the task.
Believe it or not, there are some areas on the planet where a dial-up connection is the only option. I live in one of them. Charter Cable has been promising their service for three years. It'll be available *next* year. I work for the local ISP. There just isn't a whole lot of financial incentive to bring broadband to a town of 1500 people. Eventually the technology will make it a sound business decision. But eventually ain't here yet.

Can I ask you a question on the measuring of the download? Did you do it with a stopwatch or by looking at the numbers at the bottom in the browser. They can differ a lot on the same speed.
But if it possible, urge them to go to xDSL or Cable of some kind. It really really makes a difference in how you work with your computer, almost a different paradigm.
