This in today which might be helpful for those having the slower connections under OS X - I got it in an e-letter from Other World Computing.
----- quote follows ----- For our August 9th Quick Tip, we covered the donation-ware utility 'Cocktail' for OS X 10.2. For whatever reasons, Apple default network settings noticeable slow down certain types of internet connections and _one_ feature of Cocktail allows that to be 'corrected' with a click. A drawback, however, was that after a restart you'd have do the setting change again. Well, not any more. The current 2.4.x version of Cocktail takes care of that, maintaining the setting unless you change it again. This is great utility, one the author should be supported for. Many readers emailed to say what a difference it made! Read Steve's original review which includes the download page link here: <http://eshop.macsales.com/link.cfm?id=2767-4999> This product also just got a 4 Mice MacWorld Rating in the August/03 Issue. ----- quote ends ----- They also mentioned (link below) that the MacWarehouse division of MicroWarehouse (their parent corp.) was sold this last Monday and that the parent company filed soon after for bankruptcy. Here's what OWC said (and the link): ------ quote follows ----- MacWarehouse was just sold to CDW on Monday followed by MicroWarehouse (parent of MacWarehouse) then filing bankruptcy. Suppliers have taken a hit off this one as while CDW paid 22 Million to attain all the 'good assets' of MacWarehouse leaving their debts behind. Customer's of the cataloger appear for most part unaffected, but if you've got an open order or warranty issue with them from prior to the CDW sale, I would recommend following up on it. <http://eshop.macsales.com/link.cfm?id=937-8640> ----- quote ends ----- FWIW, I don't work for OWC, and have only bought 1 or 2 items from them (and had good service). But I am anticipating getting some hardware - and Jaguar - from them in the next 1-2 months. (Oh yeah, they have a deal where you can buy a full install CD version of 10.1 with an upgrade - 2 CDs - version of 10.2, all under $60 plus shipping, etc.).
