That's kind of disheartening because it means, sooner or later, I'm going to have to start banning ALL AOL users, Mac and Windows alike, from joining my mailing lists. I flatly REFUSE to allow HTML posting on my lists as I want to be certain all messages on them can be read by ANYONE, regardless of their choice of computing platform and/or mail client.

Wait a minute! I see no reason to ban an AOL user. I'm using AOL for Mac X v10.3 and obviously it's posting to this list (which does not allow HTML postings.) AOL can read plain text emails. And it can send in plain text (from Mac version for X) by going to www.aol.com and sending the mail from there. The fact that AOL chose to make HTML it's default setting is no reason to ban AOL users. If you don't want people posting HTML to your email lists, set the lists not to accept it. Don't just automatically ban AOL users because HTML is it's email default setting.

However, Paula, the bottom line is that you CANNOT send plain text mail from within the AOL software. Why would someone go to the AOL web page to send mail from the computer that has their AOL software installed? All AOL had to do was put an option in the preferences for plain text. In Eudora I have 4 choices:
Send both Plain & Styled, Send Styled only, Send Plain only, Ask each time

Of course I have it set to send plain text only.
