Mr 'Chas',
Your tone is very unpleasant.

Too bad. When someone asks exceedingly naive questions about a pro-level piece of software, I think it's a PERFECTLY REASONABLE assumption that he MAY have stolen it. In case you haven't heard, piracy is a big problem. The Mac community is too small and needs its developers too much to tolerate much piracy. So I'm pretty gung-ho about calling a spade a spade.

That said, I didn't ACTUALLY accuse ANYBODY of pirating. I raised the POSSIBILITY but did NOT say that Phil had done so. Read the message again.

Phil DID NOT steal it. I have a friend that administers a large network
of macs for his company and he had this until he got his company to
upgrade to OS X Server Panther. He gave it to me, (after getting the
all clear from the 'man upstairs' to do with it what he wishes). And he
said 'have a play' I have no use for it, and I don't have the time to
play with it so, knowing that Phil likes to play with everything and
anything, so I handed it on to him.

Explanation accepted. But look at Phil's post again and TRY to imagine that you DIDN'T know that: doesn't it seem pretty clear that he's out of his league? And what would someone so clearly unknowledgeable about server OSes be doing with a copy unless ...

IOW, I don't think I was particularly off-base in assuming that Phil a) didn't know what he was getting into, and b) MAY repeat MAY have acquired his goods by less than legal means.

I just want to get that clear.

But apparently I was supposed to be psychic and just KNOW this prior to you telling me. I see.

Nobody accuses my friends of stealing

1. Nobody accused anyone of stealing. Someone just raised it as a conceivable possibility. Unclench.

and nobody talks to my friends in
that manner either.

2. Apparently someone does, actually.
