Rookie Faxer here,
I have never used the FaxSTF software that came
with my iMac. I am on a dsl line. Can this setup be made to work?
1. No. You must use an analog phone line, plugged into the analog phone modem port.
2. That phone line can be the same one you do your DSL on, but most people avoid problems by making it a different line.
3. FaxSTF as came with the iMacs is, IIRC, a pretty awful piece of software. If you're just doing the one fax, ignore the rest of this. If you're going to be faxing (send/receive) on a routine basis, I'd suggest either downloading FaxCenter (formerly Cocoa eFax), which I used for a long time with zero problems, or upgrade to 10.3, which has built-in fax sending/receiving capability (I assume you're not already on this).
