I'm running SmarterMail with a few of my customers and wish now I would
have never used it with them. They are constantly being plagued with no
sender, no subject emails that Smarter Tools has said was an issue with
corruption of the grp files in Smarter Mail. I've followed every
instruction they've given me to resolve the issue, but it continues.
The cure is relatively simple, but it shouldn't happen at all.
The other thing I don't like about SmarterMail is it doesn't have the
client that IMail installs for quick and easy access to a users mailbox
to remove funky emails that will hang some mail clients (GoldMine being
one of those). With SmarterMail I have to login through the web
interface and remove them there, which can be a VERY slow and painful
process. SmarterMail is no longer an option for my customers because I
refuse to sell and install it.
Actually, the only reason I switch to SmarterMail from IMail was during
the period a while back when some folks at IPSwitch seemed to lose their
minds and take IMail away as a standalone product, but once intelligence
returned to IPSwitch I went back to IMail.

Keep the info flowing guys... that's what the internet is all about!

I appreciate the information on competing products.
Screening out all our options and other peoples experiences with
other products seems counter productive to the nature of us sharing
useful information.
I know sometimes people don't want to hear there may be a better way
but just ignore it, rather than chase off someone that giving up info
on options that effect us all.

IMO, posting on the IMail board about moving to SmarterMail is a
form of trolling. It is not helpful to the community as a whole to
here things that are unconstructive and even destructive to the
future of IMail.
I'm no Ipswitch fanboy myself, and in the past they did plenty of
harm to their reputation through their actions. Their product is
generally very solid outside of webmail issues where they got caught
up in the whole DHTML craze only to find browser compatibility was a
huge PITA. Their biggest downfall was probably the price increase
which followed trying to exit the market. Someone at one point over
there clearly thought that they were going to compete with
groupware, and they lost out on the hosting provider market in the
process. From the customer perspective, they probably couldn't move
fast enough back towards what some of us want or expect, but it's
not like they aren't trying at all. I think that sort of dialog is
helpful rather than being unconstructive or destructive.
So if you moved on to SmarterMail, maybe consider unsubscribing from
the list, or at least think twice about telling others to move when
posting on this list.
