As far as the list sending, again, it should not make any difference what
the mode is, IMail will create the files and place them into the Queue, and
they will always have the same list of email addresses, including internal
and external addresses. If IMail processes them and they are removed from
the Queue, then IMail delivered them and/or sent a bounce message to the
list owner for each address it could not deliver to. If the Queue processes
and removes them on the first attempt and you don't get bounces, then IMail
delivered to all the addresses and there should be evidence of that in the
logs.
Since this is getting stranger as time progresses, how about you follow this
little test procedure:
Rename the log file (IMail will create a new one as needed).
Send a message to the list, while list is in mode that sends to all
addresses.
Wait about 5-10 minutes (if the list is small, should be completed in much
shorter time!) and then change the list setting and send another message to
the list. Wait same amount of time as you did in the first wait and then
copy the log file to an email message (or look at it yourself, using info
below).
If the logs for both are the same, showing IMail delivering the email to all
addresses (rdeliver=1, means successful remote delivery), then there is
nothing wrong with IMail! There are some email servers that can discard
email based upon some rules or configuration (see a previous AOL discussion
on this subject!), so it may be that the end users don't get the email, but
that is not a fault of IMail, but of the configuration of the receiving
server.
If the logs are not the same, then there will be other information in it to
explain the reason for non-delivery. And bounce messages created and
delivered to the list owner.
You can ignore this next part, if you wish!
As for the RFC, it is what some might consider a legacy issue. Just know
that an email server can send bounce and other delivery status email, with
no information in the MAIL FROM: command. No debate, just facts! Best for
your sanity (and mine, I cannot troubleshoot without error messages, don't
know how you can!), if you take Scott's and my recommendation. Like the Nike
commercial... Just Do It! Or the old Doctor joke... Patient says "It hurts
when I do that.". Doc answers, "Then don't do that!".
