<sigh>

I normally don't comment on anything like this..but I, for one, have to
say, Scott, your product is WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD for performance,
ease of installation, and the tech support that you are so timely in
handing out, both on this list and the Declude list.

The additional cost for Declude has paid for itself over and over and
over again by catching viruses that may have otherwise infected client
workstations, requiring me to have spent time cleaning machines and
possibly reinstalling operating systems, due to infection.

I have used other antivirus products made especially for email and none
of them have even come close to performing as well and as consistantly
as Declude does, in conjunction with the anti virus software that I
already had.

As long as Declude continues to perform as well as it does now, I don't
see where there is even a remote possibility that it's going to lose its
"niche"

Len? Can't believe you have been so quiet...you on vacation?????

To all my fellow american geeks, have a safe and happy Thanksgiving :)

Sharyn

Well, I was staying out of this discussion, feeling that it would be
best
not to comment. But now I feel the need to.

>Last time I looked Ipswitch was a FOR Profit company.

Can I ask, do you work for them? If so, why are you hiding that you
work
for them?

I ask because I noticed that you referred to the product name, even
though
it hasn't been mentioned in this forum, or in the little information I
have
seen so far on the product. And, you're using a freebie mail
address. And, you appear to be using a fake name (references to that
name
on the Internet all point to Beavis and Butthead). Plus:

 > X-Originating-IP: [216.104.149.198]
 > From: "Harry Sacks" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

You connected to Hotmail from 216.104.149.198. Although the reverse DNS
on
that is mucked up (the DNS server is reporting a server failure), the
next
hop out is "ipswitch1-gabn.net" (not a real domain name, but it sounds
like
a reverse DNS entry that a poorly operated ISP might give out to a
customer
named "ipswitch"). And, 216.104.149.198 is located in Augusta, GA --
and
guess what? Ipswitch has an office there.

I haven't been thrilled with the way that Ipswitch has handled this so
far,
and your E-mail just makes it worse. Someone once thought that all the
posts here about Declude were really made by me, and that I used a bunch
of
fake addresses to make those posts. Of course, that isn't true; I
wouldn't
even think of doing that.

I'll go ahead and respond to the comments you made about Declude:

>Also, remember Declude requires you purchase and set up your own
>Anti-Virus software.

Most of our customers already have anti-virus software, and don't need
to
buy another AV program.

>That means 1) You have more expense than just Declude, thus it's
>misleading to say it's SO inexpensive,

For some of our customers, there is no extra cost. For those that do
have
to pay extra, the average is about 5%-10% over the cost of the software
itself -- less than what people would pay in sales tax if they bought
our
software at a local computer store.

>2) You have to make it work with Imail and your AV scanner,

Yes, that's quite true. However, many of our customers get it installed

within about 5 minutes.

>and 3) You have to separate products to maintain and get support for if
>you need it.

As is the case with virtually all AV products.

However, in our case, since our software is the program that hooks the
other two together, we take responsibility for everything. If any of
our
customers has a problem and they don't know if it is caused by the AV
software, IMail, or Declude, we'll handle it. We will either identify
that
the problem is in the AV software or IMail (and specify which program
and
why), or we'll take care of the problem if it happens to be an issue
with
Declude.

>These are things that a company must think about. Ipswitch's Carrier
>Scan
>is integrated into Imail. Your support for Imail Carrier Scan and Imail

>will come from Ipswitch alone.

<G>

>No going back and forth between 2 companies trying to make it work.

I guess you haven't tried Declude Virus, or tried our support before.
It
is very, very rare that one of our customers needs support from the
company
that writes their AV software or to Ipswitch (unless, of course, the
problem is completely unrelated to Declude).

If I'm wrong, I'm sure some of our customers will point it out.

>No configuring separate products to work with each other. There are
>benefits to paying more for a product that is integrated, but that
doesn't
>mean it's for everyone. Declude has it's niche and should continue to
>have it's niche.

That is quite accurate.
