Just like FreeBSD and Windows? I mean, agreed on paper. But, strangely enough, most software buyers still expect that price level, or lack thereof, directly relates to supportability/compatibility/ functionality. I deal with such types all the time. And then there's also the inverse effect, the ol' buying-your-vote trick. I could see a press junket by Symantec being very successful, and you and I know how much marketing has done for certain, um, major players, despite the even more black-and-white price comparison in certain cases (let's call it $0-vs.-$!). Situation: Ipswitch gets a sales call for Imail (which, for anyone listening, I am fully behind as a mail server and implement constantly for customers.) Sales rep fires up the ol' invoice form. "Anything else today, sir?" "What else've you got?" "We're running a special on Symantec Whatever for Imail, which is our preferred anti-virus solution." "Well, as long as I've got the company card out...." I'm not saying they can't do it, I'm saying let's be vigilant.
