Were you using Hubs or switches? And were they 3Com as well? Just interested, but I do have a case where an Intel Pro card would not work with my 3Com switch when it worked fine in a hub.(It was an old Pro though, so that isn't conclusive.)
Integrated Intel Eths on some of my servers work well though. I only buy 3Com 905's.
