Try having your client open a command window and telnet to port 25 or 110:
telnet mail.server.com 25 telnet mail.server.com 110 They should get a response from both if they have SMTP passed through the Verizon firewall. If they get through, then the problem is on the client or server. If not, then the problem is with Verizon.
