I have tried this, however Verizon does not allow relaying of mail through
their SMTP server unless it is under their email address and user account.
Someone also told me that Verizon may filter their ports and not allow any
SMTP on there access.

Unless you allow them access to IMail by granting their IP address in the 
SMTP "Relay for Addresses" then their outgoing SMTP setting should be 
Verizon's SMTP server if they are the ISP.  So, make sure on the email that 
is hosted with you, their SMTP is Verizon's.
