This most likely is not the solution to your problem, but it never hurts to post to obvious. If you are accessing the mailbox via another client(ie, Outlook Express, Outlook etc) at the same time you are accessing with webmail, you cannot delete any email at that time as the other mail client has the .mbx files locked.
