Some people will use IMail as the gateway, because they are familiar with IMail. If price isn't an issue, that's often the best way to go.

But if IMail's inability to handle 500+ K msgs/day without very $powerful hardware and the hottest tuning tricks is the motivation for adding a gateway to offload from Imail, is Imail a reasonable choice for the 500+ K msg gateway?


Other options would include IMGate or Microsoft SMTP.

What kind of policies are available in MS SMTP? Without the critical one of being able to reject mail to unknown users, it would be useless.
