Your email reflects a sense of shock that
we've been seeing all morning from IMail users. We have numerous emails
from people just as surprised at IPSwitch's sudden price changes. I'll try
to answer your questions the best I can.
The pricing structure on our web
page will be updated as soon as we learn the features of IMail's latest
offering. We don't want to update the price and not have everything else
reflected. Wouldn't really be fair, so we're waiting until we have the big
picture. We are going to comment that page today with a notice of their
price changes, however, so that people can see that things have
changed.
There are no annual maintenance costs. Minor upgrades (bug
fixes, etc) are free. Major upgrades are half-price. Email support
is always free. Phone support is free for the first 30 days, then $50 per
issue after that. Emails are usually answered within 6-8 hours (most often
much less), however, making phone support rarely necessary.
Any Enterprise functionality
added to SmarterMail will be either added at no cost, or will be added as a
separate edition of the product (Enterprise Edition, for example). Our
target market is the hosting industry, and Groupware costs do not lend well to
shared hosting environments.
We have a conversion utility that can
migrate all your domains and users from IMail automatically. We
also have web services that let you administrate the configuration
programatically.
We are currently implementing SPF for a type of Spam
option. We do not plan to have our product directly interface with DNS to
ADD SPF entries, however. We will be offering outright rejection as an
option if a domain does not match an existing SPF record, but the
program will not, by default, reject for domains not having a record at
all. Further actions will be allowed as well, and can be overridden at the
domain / user level. We're about two months out from having that
functionality.
You can lock out many features, like mailing lists, for
example. Let me know what you want to lock out and I'll let you know if
you can. Same with domain limits. You can limit the number of users,
disk space, etc.
We have many customers running our product under Windows
2000. You should not have any trouble.
You may use Norton
Corporate Edition with SmarterMail. Set up the scanner to scan the Spool
directory and ignore the domain data directories, then add a delivery delay to
SmarterMail of 20 seconds and you'll be all set. More information is
available in the online help.
We understand that this development
adversely affects a lot of companies, and we're actually going to release a
competitive promotion later this week. I've been given permission to give
