As with many threads, the original pursuit can disolve into the details.. :)

The 'errors' in the log file are only notable since they are always the first 
item.  The real issue if the inconsistant pops3 logging.

I checked the event viewer and at 28-11-04 12:00:00 AM POP3S has an entry:
  event id 38
Error opening log file "C:\usr\EMWAC\MAIL\Pop3log\1041128.log" - logging 
temporaily disabled.

-Odd since POP3S was able to open the previous 8 logs were opened without err, 
and upon sop/restart of POP3S the log was opened.
