put a short outage on supply of different lengths simulating mains
glitch. Without diode from reset to VCC across C's charging resistor,
the capacitor isn't discharged fast enough for a fresh power on reset
when a short power outage. Standard practice for 20 years on
Industrial controller reset pins to improve reliability.
