Dear John,
I agree that it is a feature to run a game in window. But there are some
reasonable arguments for running it in a fullscreen mode:
-the user could choose if he wants a window or a fullscreen, it's just
another feature

-some 3d-hardware work only in fullscreen

-running 3d on a system with two monitors is much slower on Windows. I have
to manually switch off the second monitor before i want to use
Java3D/OpenGL. That's annoying...

-what if the user has the wrong resolution for the game? Ie 640x480 but it
needs at least 800x600? What when he doesn't know how to change it? (don't
laugh, we're talking about "end users" ;-)

-Design issues: it just doesn't look right when you play a action game and
you see OS stuff around you
