Markus,

I don't object if Sun somehow manages to give us a way to force full
screen mode in a specific resolution. Unless it's very easy though I'd
far rather see them use their time for fixing bugs, improving
performance and adding other features (ie full screen mode doesn't even
make it on my list of desired features).

User choice - well, I make my window full screen by default, the user
always has the choice to make it smaller if they wish.

3D Hardware - I believe we are only talking some rather old Voodoo cards
here and that is because Glide only runs in full screen (any hack of
OpenGL they've done is probably of limited value). Sure it's nice to
support old hardware but we are doing 3D and by nature that basically
means we are looking to the latest and fastest hardware.

Two monitors - as far as I know the Matrox G400 and the upcoming NVidia
GeForce MX are the only good dual monitor solutions (ie one card drives
both monitors with full acceleration).

Wrong Resolution - yes... I'm more than aware of the fact that many
users don't even have a clue how to change resolution... hmmm... I'm not
sure it's a great solution for us to force them into a resolution that
potentially might damage their monitor either. I guess I'll stick to my
guns here and insist that if the user wants to properly enjoy my
software they need to set their resolution to optimum. Along this same
issue we have a more serious problem in that most users are unable to
even install Java and Java 3D.

Design issues - {grin} Personal choice... they can always maximize the
window.

Markus, I hope you take this discussion in the friendliest manner
possible. I'm hoping the bugs in picking will get fixed, right now full
screen mode seems like a remote luxury.
