:) But with one important point, I was concentrating mainly on the eye candy FPS style of game as that's what I tend to play the most. But as you point out awesome graphics is not the only thing to a good game. If you want to prove your game designer abilities then Java could be a good choice. Designing good game play and original ideas depends little on the programming language or platform so why not use a quicker environment like Java to learn. Once you prove your abilities to a publisher you'll have access to experienced coders to add final spit and polish to your work and make it commercial (whether that be Xbox, PS2, PC, etc).
