Hmm.  First, no one from Sun has directly said to my knowledge that Java3D
is in a "holding pattern".  And it certainly wouldn't be the place of the
actual developers (who are on this list), but the managers to make any
public comments about Sun's commitment.  Even if it is in a holding
pattern, I would assume that means "no new versions in the forseeable
future", not "no bug fixes for what we've put out there".  Our group has a
lot vested in Java-based 3D visualization, and I'm sure there are other
big customers too. Sun is getting *more* into the gaming/visualization end
of the business, so I wouldn't be too concerned about being left high and
try on visualization tools and expanding current applications, as this is
where they see dollars coming from.
