To the best of my knowledge, you need VC++ 6 or 7 to compile for Windows. Personally, 
I'm not inclined to run out and purchase VC++ just to compile a Java API. Fortunately, 
the good folks at OpenMind have made Win32 binaries available for download for JOGL 
and related APIs.
