I don't think JOGL is aimed at 'us'. It's aimed at the games
companies as a 'not too different way of programming than
the C/C++ wrapper over OpenGL that you're already using'.

My guess is that Sun thinks Java 3D and its supporters can
manage on their own for a bit while resources are redirected.

It makes v.good sense for JOGL support to be improved --
not for 'us', but to improve the sales pitch to the companies.
I can't see them moving over to something that looks
so new and untried.

I agree.
I wonder why JOGL was made public so soon? I guess to coincide
with the "new emphasis" Java at Java One.

The current view I guess is that JOGL and Java 3D will co-exist,
catering to different communities of 3D programmers. As to what
will really happen, ... ?
