When it is compatible to it (AFAIK it is one of the last 4.4 release candidates), thats the reason for the poor quality.
I have big problems here with Radeon-cards. XFree 4.4 is completely unuseable, nearly nothing appears as it should. 4.3 is better but far away from beeing perfect (colors are displayed wrong, there are mistakes in the Z-Buffer and textures are missing).
