Casper, I drafted several replies to this, but they all come around
the same theme:

Mono for mono's sake, that is, constructing and deploying an app as a
Mono app I have no issues with, and if it brings the linux community
more capability then go for it.

Buying developer side tooling on Windows and then deploying to Linux
would be the worst of both worlds.  My view is the MS story is a good
one, if you are MS (and its ISV ecosystem) from top to tail.
