Apple has always been about shiny and nothing about geek.. which is why the
almost completely disappeared in the first place! There have always been very
few Apple clones. Apple has never wanted to do anything else but have complete
totalitarian control. It's just now the market has matured from maybe I'll
store my recipes with it to people now knowing what these machines can do for
them and what they want from the machines. And there are people out there that
want shiny and not only are not interested in tinkering, they just want a 0
admin device. Give them that and all is good. I've always said that desktops
and laptops are engineering tools intended to be used by engineers that escaped
from the lab.

People loved the Sony Walkman and where is it (and Sony) now?

I don't see negatives to the deal for any consumer.. the stuff works well and
you don't have to know much to be able to use it. Perfect deal for them! (for
the moment). It's up to you to make that moment pass by giving them something
better.
