This is what I used to do prior to retiring and it always worked well.
In the event one forgot to do this the system administrator also has
built into the network a 15 minute auto lock out should no activity
occur at any particular workstation. Initially,  he had it set for 5
minutes but the employees went nuts!

Try doing a control + alt + delete, and arrow to lock.
I also had to do that when leaving the keyboard. When you come back 
just hit any key and you will have the password log in.
