Thanks to all, I will try the alt+control+delete and then to the lock button. I knew of this but the windowsKey+l does the same thing but the longer route may circumvent my problem. It just puzzles me why jaws loses control of the keyboard when executing the lock and of course it is intermittent. The problem became apparent when I upgraded to jaws 13. This is what I used to do prior to retiring and it always worked well. In the event one forgot to do this the system administrator also has built into the network a 15 minute auto lock out should no activity occur at any particular workstation. Initially, he had it set for 5 minutes but the employees went nuts!
