1)
I use poEdit (Win) for translations --but we have to consider the new,
alternative, web-based
system on --. The PO files have an UTF8 coding, so it's not correct that I use
iso-8859-1as
Bob pointed out. I write directly the accented characters by keyboard and
poEdit codes them
as UTF8 (when I look at the po file in a plain text editor, they are coded like
"á" for acute
a)

2)
I do'nt think that "ANSI" is a good indication for translators; I tried to
insert characters as
\u00E1 and the poEdit program complained.

3)
There will be few people translating these, and hopefully they will be used to
managing non-
English character problems, so although nasty the whole thing is not too
important. In case
a problem arises, some of us can lend a hand.

4)
Since I don't see the problem, nor does Bob, I must insist in my yet unanswered
question:
Jonathan, are you reading from a server, or (likely) just reading local files
but with a Mac?
We have had problems before with Macs.
Have you tried the new es-po file that I commited yesterday? rev. 9808

5)
I don't like much the "style = hidden" tagging; apart from cumbersome,
the translator might try to translate that too (not harmful, anyway).

6)
The footer "" is not much of a problem, as if can be either entered with
entities or fixed at
the end in the wysiwyg editor by just deleteing the offending character as
typing the correct
one --as the rest of the GT that go into body--. I'm more concerned about the
page title.

The first thing is to narrow down the problem. Please, state the OS and
local/server and
check if the latest po file fixes the problem (there I put entities for both
the footer string and
the page title).

After all, everything can be fixed by editing the final web page in the usual
editor.
And I have already opened a section in the Wiki to put instructions.
So let's try to find out, but I don't think that extraordinary measures are
worth.
