I am. But that's soft realtime (which may actually be good enough for the iDrive as long as it doesn't have anything to do with the actual engine functionality).

Still, I've not checked up on this recently and they could have very well went with
something like Vertex, QNX, or other hardcore RTOS. Then again,
some are using Linux in mil spec aviation so don't count generic Linux
as the only way to use Linux for realtime applications. IIRC, LynuxWorks
is the one who had their stuff validated and used. There's alot of Linux getting used in embedded mil-type hardware.

I don't think that the hard realtime LynuxWorks kernel is Linux.

I think you're talking about LynxOS. It doesn't claim to be Linux, but does claim to be ABI compatible.
