The smell also comes from nicotine which penetrates. If you've ever painted
a ceiling in house where someone smoked, it takes several washes with sugar
soap to get the stain off the surface, but it's still likely to reappear
through a couple of layers of paint.
If you're a smoker, you don't notice that books, clothes, etc smell.
