In some ways it is hard to judge Brian the manager (we all love Brian the man) - like many a Leeds manager before him he has had to do the job with his hands tied behind his back If we had got Ashley Barnes then maybe , just maybe Stewart and Kebe would have looked decent from the start. or we would have been able to bring in better players than those two ?
There is no doubt that he has made mistakes in team selection and substituions (or lack of them at times) He has presided over the Rochdale and Sheff Wed debacles and for a bad run of results - was it his fault , I don't know but some of his selections and formations have appeared bizzare and have come under scrutiny Pre game on Saturday when we thought he had gone the general feeling amongst my mates, was 1, Shame for a nice bloke 2. Awful way to do it 3 Awful timing 4 A bit premature 5 He had it coming So although we are all behind him and really willing him to succeed there was a feeling of he deserves the sack. Personally I still believe he can come good - he has been willing to try things when it was not working - he began 4 4 2, but realised we could not do that without wingers, so he tried the diamond which worked for a bit, but when that failed, he went 3 at the back which had some good results, then when that was found out , he brought in 2 wide players and went 4 4 2 and then when he saw Diouf was unfit and Varney could not be picked and Smith suspended he went 4 5 1 or 4 3 3 v Huddersfield So, to me the jury is still out - forgetting the shenanigans on Friday if he had lost on Saturday there would have been a lot of cries for his head and it is unclear how much the result was down to him or down to those shenanigans, I said pre game that his 'approval rating' had gone from about 70% before his sacking to 99.99% post sacking Dave ________________________________ From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, 4 February 2014, 17:42 Subject: Re: [LU] LU: the ongoing fiasco Mark, You have to be kidding. You really think Gianluca Festa is this footballing genius we've all been craving? What evidence do you have of this from his brief spell as a third-tier mana...sorry, "coach," (gotta get with the program) in Italy? And you'd better not get your hopes up too far if it turns out that Festa (or anyone else Cellino forces on us) is some Championship-level Johann Cruyff, because if Cellino treats Leeds United like he treats Cagliari, he'll have fired that that Cruyff figure in about eight months. McDermott's been undermined for the past month or so. Before that he was doing well with a team of Michael Browns and Danny Pughs that Neil Warnock had left him. It'll take more than Gianluca Festa to turn Michael Brown into the second coming of Iniesta. Cheers! Our football has been dire. We need a "modern" manager who understands the ball is to be controlled and passed. We've shown no improvement over the season that he can either coach or demand such needed skills. He's just a younger version of Sam Allyardace. I believe that the Godfather will at least bring in someone who takes us that direction.
