Kirsten, That is true of Rootsweb but not on Ancestry; Ancestry always writes a complete new file without modifying the old one.

I appreciate the problem with updates, though. Years ago I wrote to them asking if I could just load another GEDCOM on top of the one that was there, I did not get a proper answer and still do not know!
