I imported to Legacy using a GEDCOM because there was no other way to get the information in. In one respect, this was probably the best way since while doing a lot of cleanup I have found errors that weren't noticed before.
I have tried importing with other genealogy programs that actually reads data files from the program I was trying to convert from and the cleanup is worse than a GEDCOM. I'm not a fan of GEDCOM either, but Legacy seems to offer more flexibility with mapping event fields that other programs do. My last two cents on this topic. But, I did not. My OP stated I was looking for info. on the best partner products to be used with Legacy. Thanks for bringing it back around to that. So, yes, what I'd like to get a feel for is why one would use the GEDCOM upload vs the roll your own site approach. Seems like comments along the lines of 'ancestry does a better job uploading a Legacy GEDCOM than Roots Web because ...' or vise versa would be fair game. Or perhaps a 'hey, have you heard of this hosting site made by a big fan and user of Legacy that is the best tool you'll ever integrate with' tip would be great too. It could be that Legacy does nothing whatsoever to help with moving data online. It's left as an exercise for the user of Legacy. That's fine too. I'm just trying to find the best way to use it.
