Hi,
AFAIK leafnode has a config file at /etc/leafnode.conf which you have to
edit and put in the remote machines (with various options for each) and
your local machine. There is supposed to be one primary server which has
to be one where you have posting access. You also have to set the name of
the local machine name to which leafnade will allow connections, and the
number of headers to retrieve, whether to retrieve only headers or
complete messages etc. You also have to make sure that you're actually
staring leafnode (probably through inetd) before you try to connect.
leafnode will actually connect to the first server on the config file and
get the newsgroups list from it only if the server allows you to post to
it, otherwise it will exit. Leafnode has an option to run in debug mode
with varying degrees of verbosity. Probably the only files you need to
touch are leafnode.conf and inetd.conf.
Leafnode is reasonably good but it gets painstaking to read news that way
even if your line is expensive. inn is much better (and also, to put it
mildly, somewhat painstaking to install), and on a dialup line runs great
with suck to fetch the articles themselves from remote server. you can put
in a line for suck in /etc/ppp/ip-up.local
best wishes,
Indraneel
