Hi,
When visiting this page:
https://directnat.bnc.ca/gpfr.asp
Netscape 4.61 doesn't respond to key clicks on the "Poursuivre" button. This
used to work fine when I was using a libc5-based version. For some reason,
moving to a libc6-based version breaks everything. When clicking the button,
the galactical N icon has no response. This is with the US-export version
(needed to access the site).
Has anyone else seen problems like this? How'd you fix it?

If you have a fast internet connection, you can install it all
as an ftp install. If you choose RedHat you will have to use
the boot disk for network installation, called something like
bootnet.img. You can find this and instructions for copying
it to a floppy at the RedHat web site. But you would be
better off using a mirror site for the actual ftp install.

Except for some punctuation, your English is excellent. It
contrasts to many postings incomprehensible to an English
speaker which are very frustrating because one can't understand
what the problem is. I commend you for your effort to make
yourself understood.
To answer your question, you are supposed to do this using
linuxconf, but I've found it easy to call up the program
control-panel (which is still there) and use the network
configuration button. Just exactly what you have to do
may depend on your local installtion. In particular, it will
depend on whether you have a fixed IP address or whether you
are using a DHCP server. It is fairly clear
what to do, but you may have to do
some experimentation. Try it and post further questions if
you encounter difficulties. If you do so, include as much
detail as possible about what happened.

To the best of my knowledge, the SCSI configuration utility is
run by the SCSI BIOS which is called by the motherboard BIOS
if there is a SCSI adapter present. This is done before any
operating system is loaded. I have installed Linux on a machine
which previously was a dual boot NT/Linux machine without a
problem. Of course, since I had done the original install, I
was never in any doubt about what would happen. I may have the
same card you have, but the nomenclature for cards is so confusing
that I can't be sure. Mine has a 68 pin external plug.

I got some more information last night after I posted the
previous message. What appears to be happening seems to be
related to some change in the SCSI drivers. I have a Tekram
390 UW controller with the 53C875 chip as controller 0.
I also have a Symbios 875 based fast controller as controller
1. With the older kernels I had only enabled the NCR53C8XX
driver and both cards work together fine. Using that same
driver in the 2.3.XX kernels results in only one SCSI host
being detected or if I have both the new SYM53X8XX and the
NCR53C8XX driver enabled all the disks are detected but out
of order so that is why the init program can't be found.
I've been reading the README.ncr53c8xx file and I see that
there are a couple things I migh try in terms of config
options. Can I just add the options to the .config file
and make dep; make or is there some other way I should do
it like say in the SCSI driver code itself?

First of all, is there is a chance it is an MS-DOS disk? If so, insert
the disk, and type "mdir a: /w". You don't need to mount for that, and
the command will fail if it's not a DOS disk.
Then you can try a "mount /dev/fd0 /floppy -t ext2".

Whenever you terminate Linux abnormally, the state of the
filesystems (which is in memory) may not have been saved, so
the filesystems have to be repaired. This is usually done
automatically by fsck, but sometimes it can't do it and asks
you to do it manually. In that case you should do exactly
that at the prompt when it asks you. You run the program
fsck. I can remember the
exact details. I think you may have to specify each file
system as an argument. In any case if you give the default
answer to each question it asks, you will almost certainly
be okay. In rare cases, more extreme actions are necessary,
but given what you say, I doubt if you know enough now to
be able to proceed, so let's hope that doesn't happen.

Hi..
My $.02 would be to go with a Matrox G200 or a Riva TNT2 and avoid the ATI
products (I have found the Matrox/Nvidia driver support to be much
better).
I'd also go with a separate tuner card.
The SBLive! is a great choice under Windoze but realistically is barely
funtional under Linux
(Again, poor ATI driver support but at least they've released a marginally
useful driver for it.)
My biggest beef with the SBLive! is it's (presently) total non-fuctionality
under vmware.
If it's only Linux on your system you're better off with a cheapy SB16.

Create a directory in your Linux file system to use as
a mount point, say /win
and then use something like
mount -t vfat /dev/Your_Windows_Partition_Designation /win
For example, I have Windows 95 on /dev/sda1, and in my
/etc/fstab, I have the line
/dev/sda1 /win95 vfat defaults 1 2
There is almost certainly a HOWTO on this.

I'm not sure about Debian, but under RedHat 6.0, Real Player
5.0 does exactly that. I suspect this is something related
to libraries and is implementation independent for the most
up to date implementations. You may be able to get the
G2 player at
www.real/com/products/player/linux.html
That works with RH6.0.
