Hi Everyone
Big problem. I am having trouble with X windows. I
have installed Red Hat 4.1 recently and ran xf86config
to set up X windows. I did not know my monitor horizontal and vertical refresh rates
so I guessed.
I have an S3 Trio64V2+ 1MB PCI graphics card which I do not know any settings for
RAMDAC,etc.
During my installation process I choose the SVGA server not knowing that I needed the
S3 server ( at least I think thats the server I need!).
First question:
How do I change the link to point to XF86_S3 instead of XF86_SVGA?
I have also tried to run XF86Setup but I keep getting the response:
XF86Setup: Command not found.
Why is this?
When I try to run xvidtune I get this error:
Error: Can't open display:
Can anyone explain this error?
When I run startx X windows will load but in a resolution of 320*200.
When I try and run an application such as EditRes X windows closes down and I don't
know why this is happening.
I have included a file called startx which shows what happens from the point where I
start until the GUI closes. Has anyone any idea as to what my problem is?
I have also included another attachment which is my current xf86config setup. Maybe
somebody will look at it and spot where I am going wrong.
