In that case upgrade your kernel and try this patch:Sorry I forgot to name the kernel 2.4.19-pre11and the USB port: "NEC corporation USB 2.0"
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/gregkh/usb/2.4/usb-ehci-2.4.20-pre11.patch
It might very well solve your problem.
