not true.
first define 'linux code maintainers'.
if you're referring to linux kernel developers then there's not much a
novice can give feedback then, 'hey, can you make my foo device work?'
if you mean linux distributors most of them are purely commercial
companies who would invite feedback especially from novices so they
can sell more.
if you mean individual application developers you have probably never
tried contacting an OSS application developer. You're most likely
to get a faster, honest and clear reply then what commercial companies
support/feedback desks provide. (from personal experience). Of course
there must be few who wouldn't nearly be classified as eager beavers.
As regards features there's only _so much_ that a person working after
office hours (in local terminology) writing non profit code can do. In
any case the code is out there for anybody to add any features required
by novices and in the free market it's most likely to happen if there
is a need for it.
