We are talking of two things here non brand v/s brand and brand with their own 
mfg v/s contract mfg in noname OEM shops. 

As I said ask the wrong question and you will get very misleading answers.

This one worked very very well.

All you need is a good mike (about Rs.8000) and you can test it in your room. 
Far better than an imaginary room (anechoic  chamber). You can use the PC to 
do some DSP stuff and tailor response.

Several of my friends have been cursing about lockin as well as poor service 
for ORIGINAL 35K purchases.

True. It boils down to ones knowledge and propensity for risk. The former 
mitigating the later, depending on skill level. 
However I maintain that relative to price, there is no significant improvement 
in reliability. And very patchy service.

It totally depends on where you buy. I pointed out to some shops offering 
their own warranty on unknown brands.
