Ahh... mechas are building 99% of automobiles of the world. An
inchworm mecha is the primary construction equipment for the ISS
(closest thing we have to space colony yet). Bug and worm-like
mechas, many of them autonomous robots, are performing most of the
maintenance for nuclear reactors and other hazardous places. The US
military deploy many mechas, including killing machines. I don't
think anyone has deployed a humanoid military robot yet, we have seen
many prototypes, but none deployed yet.

Sorry, I meant "mech" as in human piloted not programmed robots or waldos. And "yet" does not equal "ever". I agree, the odds are low that it will happen. Low isn't zero.

So you are saying someone first went and paved Moon and Mars surface
before Moon Buggy and Mars Rover made their joyride? But wait, aren't
bulldozers and every piece of large road-building and bridge-building
equipment also wheel-based and non-humanoid?

Yes. Cheapest, most tested, most reliable designs. Those companies aren't trying to win awards for designing the future, they're trying to sell construction equipment that works and can be used by people who use current gear.

All the legged practical
(not demonstrative) mechas I know of are quad- or hex-legged.

So far. Big big caveat there.
