Manipulator hands are possibly the WORST thing you can ever put on a
robot. They're small and weak compared to the rest of the machine.
They deflect and break too easily.
Not if it's a robot that's supposed to manipulate things, they
aren't. We build robots like that all the time for research purposes.
For a war machine, though, I agree 100%.
There are more problems associated with making a mech flight than
it's worth to try to solve them. A control system would be very
complicated to make a biped walk up and down stairs. Honda achieved
it to a certain extent with the ASIMO, but not without difficulties,
and not to mention what would happen if said robot was to fall.
For a robot, yes. Not quite the same for a power suit, since many of
the stabilization issues won't be as significant. And legs can be
very handy in rough terrain -- indeed, in the modern era we have
construction vehicles that look like giant spiders, and that actually
walk up the side of mountains to do what they need to do. It's worth
it under certain circumstances.
