Manipulator hands are possibly the WORST thing you can ever put on a

They deflect and break too easily.
Hahaaha, really? You've already designed/built/tested these manipulator
hands and they leave much to be desired? Using future tech and
resources that no one is aware of at present? Impressive. Please tell
me who also wins the 2045 World Series.
*Now* is far different from in the future. Check you history books and
see why the Panama Canal was such a horrific failure for the French but
such a success for us. Hint: The French were about 20 years too early
in their attempt at it. Get it? When *they* tried it they were doomed
to failure but by the time *we* got to it many innovations and
discoveries (like malaria is mosquito-borne, not air-borne) made it not
only possible but an impressive success.
There are more problems associated with making a mech flight than
it's worth to try to solve them. A control system would be very
complicated to make a biped walk up and down stairs. Honda achieved
it to a certain extent with the ASIMO, but not without difficulties,
and not to mention what would happen if said robot was to fall.
You seem to imply that the Honda robot is the ultimate design, that
nothing can/will get better than that. Seriously? It isn't worth
trying to solve some of those problems *now*. We get a few key tech
innovations (working fusion, for one), *then* maybe it's worth it to
rethink trying to make a mech fly. Certainly not now. And not
tomorrow. What about next year? This unchanging future you seem to
believe in sounds like the same unchanging future where someone stated
that there would only ever be a need for maybe 5 computers in the whole
world (because a computer, at the time of that statement, filled a
building, and only a mathematician could operate/program the thing).
