Actually, the Guntank's arms make more sense than the Gundam and
Guncannon's manipulator hands merely in the fact that they end in
grenade launchers. Reloads and self maintenance are much better done
by dedicated systems, the latter especially true when they use an
external system. What use is a heavy self maintenance system in
combat? To repair damage? Where are you going to get processed
materials to rebuild your parts? Lug it with you? Do you sit there
twiddling your thumbs, waiting for a gear to be remachined while
artillery shells rain on your head?
