Not really. Tachs would be extremely useful for orbital construction,
for boarding enemy vessels, and for just about anything EVA-oriented.
About the only thing they wouldn't be ideal for would be small unit
tactical combat in open space, but since there's no reason to ever do
that given the nature of even modern weapons (to say nothing of beam
weaponry or other similarly advanced concepts) that's pretty much a non-issue.
