If the gundams did exsist, atleast from the anime creator's standpoint, it probably would have taken the idea of the incredible strength of the gundam away. In all shows, Gundams always appeared to be the strongest because of their ability to stand out, being that there were not more than one of any particular one. If 3 RX-78-2's were running around in the original MSG, the attention would have been drawn away from Amuro Ray, who was the main character, and would have been divided among the 3 units and their pilots as well. Also, more units, if seperated and not used in combat together, would have supplied Zeon with more encounters with this particular model and left an opening for more data gathered, and the possibility of an equal, if not better, suit to be developed and the gundam to be destroyed, thus taking away strength that the creators wanted the gundam to depict. These are just random, unfocused rants of course...

I have a feeling that the other two Gundams were left out of the Anime and Movies. In the realm of the Anime, the Gundam's armor was too strong for a Zaku to destroy it anyway. The Super Napalm probably wouldn't have done much either... (maybe fry the circuitry). So, I doubt that the other two Gundams existed (on Side 7 at least).
