The subject of using latching relays to control
small loads on a boat is interesting. I do this
myself on my boat but it is small so wiring runs
are short.

On a larger boat it would be a hassle to install
wiring from a remote switch to the relay.

Why not use RF relay control? The biggest drawback
is the power consumption of the receiver.
Here are a couple of examples.

(These folks have lots of nice kits ;-)...)

But here is one that uses only about 100ma.

Cheap, too!

You could put the rf receiver by the load and
control it with the tx with little disadvantages.
No wiring issues, and you would still have manual
control as a back up if you put in a by-pass switch.

But again, if LED lights were used, it would be
possible to incorperate a RF control into each
light and control all of them with a simple key
fob. Why not? -Ken
