Morning it’s Peter here, welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. Hope your day is
going well, hope you’ll be able to join me tonight BBC 1 six thirty, all the
day’s news and Paul with the weather. And if you are an Emmerdale fan, and an
awful lot of people watch Emmerdale these days, actor Peter Martin, who lives
in our part of the world, in North Lincolnshire, he’ll be with me. He plays Len
in Emmerdale, you might have seen him as well, singing in the boat on the
special film that the Emmerdale cast made for Children in Need. Join for a chat
with Peter Martin a bit later on. If you’re a golf player, or someone you know
is a keen golfer then tune in to tonight’s programme, we’ll be looking at
something of interest to you.

I see that from the papers today and also listening to people talk; although in
it’s third series ‘Little Britain’ isn’t doing so well this time around. We
seem to be tiring of the same sketches and the same jokes. It’s episode number
four this week, the audience has dropped by a million each week so far. It
could be down to as little as three or four million by Christmas. I enjoyed it
when it first came out, the first series was refreshingly funny, different and
it also poked fun at some of the daftness of political correctness. But I
suppose as we get older and also naturally you have elderly relatives as well
and you see of the things they’re making jokes about, you look at it and you
think ‘I shouldn’t be laughing, but what I am actually laughing at?’ . So I
haven’t enjoyed it as much either, maybe I’m just a being an old prude. You
views gratefully received. What do you think of ‘Little Britain’. Also don’t
forget to keep the answers coming in if you want to chance to g!
o to Peterborough to see Paul Daniels do his pantomime, it’s on at Christmas.
Also if you want the chance to meet Paul afterwards then: give me the first
name of Paul Daniel’s son, who is also a magician and entertainer.

Letters

Thanks very much for the emails, keep them coming in, if you want to get in
touch then of course you can; [EMAIL PROTECTED] This one comes from Doreen
Hampshire, ‘Will you please wish my husband Brian a very happy birthday for
Wednesday 14th of December, he’ll be 67’ thanks you very much indeed, and
Brian, happy birthday to you.

Fresh Fruit

When you go into the supermarket you see those lovely shiny red or green apples
and you think ‘oh I’ll have some apples, they look lovely, just like they’re
picked fresh off the tree.’ In the paper this morning I see that apples are
being sold in supermarkets up to a year after being harvested, can you believe
that? The freshly picked fruit stocked by the large supermarkets is treated
with chemical gas that stops it ripening during storage. The process allows
produce to be sold two or three seasons after being harvested. I never knew
that, apparently this gas is pumped either into cold rooms, where apples are
being stored or into shipping containers. The ripening process resumes only
when the chemical is removed, and those are the apples that we’re eating as
freshly picked.

 Banks

We’ve all got our stories about banks, what we like and what we don’t like. But
one of the major banks apparently, or allegedly has removed all the clocks from
its branches so that customers do not know how long they have been queuing.
That’s according the The Star. The extraordinary moves comes as part of a big
refurbishment of dozens of branches of a well known bank across the country.
The employees said the scheme was part of an effort to stop customers
complaining about how long they’ve been queuing. Isn’t that a great story?

Joan Collins

I think I mentioned this a few days ago , Joan Collins, can you believe is
doing ‘An Evening with Joan Collins’, touring around the country. She’s also
got with her ‘Four Puffs and a Piano’ from the Jonathan Ross show. Joan will be
coming to Kingslynn and Sheffield as part of her tour, and we’re hoping to get
her on the programme.

That’s all from me for today, have a very good day, join me tonight at six
thirty. Bye, Peter.
